Hummingbird Hawk-moth larva

This Hummingbird Hawk-moth larva was found by Bob Dawson this morning on a wall just outside his house in town

The colour change to purple and loss of markings shows that this is a fully grown caterpillar and is ready to pupate. 

   In the last week I've recorded my first Whitethroat, Pied and Spotted Flycatcher and Tree Pipit of the year! 2 of the latter species today flew over work. The end of august the 2 Citrine Wagtail on Tresco Great Pool were joined by 2 Wood and a Pectoral Sandpiper. So on Sunday Elle and I kayaked to Tresco in the late afternoon. Before we arrived Darren Mason turned up a Red-breasted Flycatcher to the right of the Swarovski hide. However when we arrived we managed to see one Wood Sandpiper and Citrine wagtail while at the same time you could the other Citrine Wagtail nearby.

This Adult White-Rumped Sandpiper was discovered at Periglis beach, St Agnes, at the end of August Robin Mower

  

We both had a great weekend camping up at Deep Point, ringing with Jim, kayaking to Tresco and having a BBQ, also at Deep Point with friends and my daughter Tean singing and playing guitar around the fire

3 CITRINE WAGTAIL on Scilly

On Sunday there was the annual 6 a-side football on the Garrison. I played for Daddy's United, sponsored by Scilly Fish, and as we were one of the underdogs, we did pretty well getting as far as the semi-finals out of eight teams!

To be a top side the first thing you have to do is warm up looking like puffs. In our case, belly dancing. Our first game was against the Airport and Gibbo put us ahead with the only goal of the match. Good start!

Even MOTD were there to show the world our silky skills!

Our second game was taking on Tregarthen's and we beat them 2-0! Here Paul skins one of their players. He was told that if he played really well, then he could go on bouncy castle for free! I was told that if I played well, then I could go and work for Star Castle for nothin!

 

Tony and I were put in defence and we made sure that no one got past us

 

This harsh challenge got the player a yellow card 

 

As a result from that tackle, one of our players knocked out cold their goalie! Note that no ones coming to his aid. Not really, but he was out for a few seconds after a collision with one of our players and was taken off. Later he told us that he can't remember what happened. I told him that we scored two passed yeah!

For some strange reason, now and then, Tony thought he was a silverback!

 

In our third game, we were up against one of the favourites, The Galley. However, Darren and Gibbo both scored with two of the best goals of the contest. Both were long range and powerful and left the keeper with no chance. I think the The Galley were kind of stunned when the second goal went in. Paul showing how it's done again 

 

 

Sam and I had enough of bloody football and decided to have a game of twister instead. I won!

Red-backed Shrike at Lower Moors

This is the best I could do of Big Al's juvenile Red-backed Shrike in the late evening light at Lower Moors. There was also a single Pied Flycatcher in the area and I had another up at Sage House.

A few weeks ago, up to 73 Storm Petrel were ringed at Deep Point and included another control from France.

 

I kayaked to Samson and had this 2nd summer Common Gull last week. It's been on Tresco for the last two weeks
