RED-EYED VIREO on St Agnes

RED-EYED VIREO giving crippling views at the  west end of Periglis

After the last few days and the lack of birders on the islands, I didn't really expect another American passerine to turn up. Just before 10.00, Bob Dawson went and discovered a RED-EYED VIREO in Tamarrisk at the back of the churchyard at Periglis, St Agnes. It was 14.30 that Will Scott and I with other birders saw it showing well in a Bramble field just beyond the church. and what a cracking bird it was! Except for a quick look for the Yellow-browed Warbler just around the corner in the Troy Town fields, I stayed with the bird till dusk when I returned home on the supper boat. During this time the vireo showed off as it fed and flycatched just a few meters in front of us. On one occasion I thought it was goin to land on my head and when Robin joined me, it perched very briefly 10ft away out in the open!
