Juvenile SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, South Beach, Tresco
Will Wagstaff was doing his seabird trip around Tresco and scanning the South Shore from the boat, spotted a Long-billed Dowitcher. It was only when he returned to St Mary's and he looked at his pics, that he reidentified it as the first SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER for Scilly and only the 3rd British record! Throughout the rest of the day, the Dowitcher performed very well to the small crowd. The juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper was still on the nearby Abbey Pool.

2 juvenile Buff-breasted Sandpiper and juvenile Dotterel were at the airfield
There have been 2 juvenile CITRINE WAGTAIL knocking around. It is thought that this Juvenile is the one that Kester Wilson found at Salakee last week. The Carn Leh/Lower Moors bird, that was discovered on the same day when the Salakee bird was first seen, but was thought to be the same bird, was in fact found by Sam Perfect while looking for Kesters bird!
Juvenile CITRINE WAGTAIL and juvenile Black-tailed Godwit were showing at very close range at Porth Hellick mainly from the Sussex Hide. Also there were 4 Dunlin and a single Snipe on the pool. Later in the late afternoon, Trevor and Julie Davis (Northern Waterthrush finders) saw a Spotted Crake in the NW corner.
This Migrant Hawker was also infront of the Sussex Hide. In the morning I also had one in the garden
Martin had this Wryneck in his garden at Holy Vale this morning. It was so close to the window that he couldn't focus. Another 2 were seen also on St Mary's with a single on Bryher.

Hi Kris,
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for updating me on the Citrine Wagtail situation. I'm very glad as this now represents my first self-found rarity! (not surprising since my home county only turns up about half a douzen rarities in a year). Hope to see you some time soon in October (if my course allows) and thanks again for all the lifts you gave me around the island,
Kind regards,
Samuel
