First BROADNOSED PIPEFISH for Scilly!

A dried up BROADNOSED PIPEFISH found at Shark's Pit was the first record for Scilly!

During a beach clean at Shark's Pit yesterday, the kids found a dried up pipiefish and when Ren looked at it, he thought that it might be a BROAD NOSED PIPEFISH, first for Scilly! This was confirmed by the Scilly county recorder, Paul Sterry. It can be found in the SW waters and is about 12 inches long.

Also dead was this male GOLDEN ORIOLE that was killed and brought in by a cat in Hugh Town

I was working throughout the day and then I watched the second half of the FA Cup final. Liverpool were very unlucky not to draw. During the day, Graham found a NIGHTENGALE at Shooters Pool, Lower Moors, to the delight of everyone that heard and saw it, and the 2 RED-RUMPED SWALLOW turned up on St Mary's at Pelistry. Most of the common migrants have moved on although Higgo did get a Wood Warbler and a very high number  of 200+House and 100+Sand Martin all on Tresco.

Over 150 Swallow and very few House and Sand Martin were feeding at Porthloo Beach in the evening sun

Also 5 Wheatear were on the beach

Up to 7 Swift and a single House Martin were roosting for the second night, under the eves of the Methodist Hall in town. Another was found on the deck below the roost and was taken into care and will be released tomorrow.

Another beautiful sunset from Porthloo
