Spring migrants still hanging around

The Adult Pink-footed Goose at Salakee

A walk through the Newford horse paddock this morning still held large numbers of Willow Warblers and Blackcap. At content, two fields were alive with Blackcaps with a total of 70+ and 45+Willow warbler. They were coming from out below your feet in small flocks! At the Garrison the was a cracking male Black Redstart, 45+Blackcap, 25+Willow Warbler, 3 yellow and 1 White Wagtail, 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 2 Sedge Warbler, 12 Wheatear and 7 Swift.

My first May record of a Black Redstart

Up to 7 Swift were on the garrison

3 Yellow Wagtail were feeding in the campsite

Still Good numbers of Whimbrel around

Early evening Robin and I twitched Pied Flycatcher and Lesser Whitethroat that Graham had earlier on the day at Salakke. There was no sign, but we did get the Pink-footed Goose, 25+Willow Warbler, 15+Blackcap. At Porth Hellick/Carn Friars, there were another 50-60 Willow Warbler, 20 Blackcap, immature male Merlin and a single Tree Pipit. At Normandy there was another 10 Blackcap.

Higgo once again made it to Bryher, but he arrived at 14.30. There's a very good reason for this. He wanted to watch a documentary on TV about the Beach Boys. In the two hours that he was there he didn't do all that bad. For the first time since the fall, St Martins was also visited. A Marsh Harrier was on Tresco and was later at Porth Hellick and the Rook turned up at Tresco. Still very good numbers of migrants and included a total of 35+Grasshopper Warbler
