Northern Willow Warbler

Big fat Northern Willow Warbler at Higher Moors this evening in the disappearing light

With a Brown Shrike turning up at Porthgwarra, Cornwall today, after work I thought I would spend the last hour of light in the higher Moors area. There were a lot of chiffs and crests in the Sallows, but it wasn't until almost dark that there was a lot more activity. Over 20 Chiffchaff, 15 Goldcrest, single Blackcap, Siberian Chiffchaff and my second Northern Willow warbler of the week. Overhead there were 4 redpoll, 17 Swallow, 4 House Martin, 6 Pied Wagtail, 30+Fieldfare and a male Merlin. I guess that's not bad in an hour?

It was almost dark when I took this Siberian Chiffchaff and Northern Willow Warbler. Note the Sibe Chiff has a ring on it's right leg

In the last few days I've had up to 2 Yellow-browed Warbler and Firecrest at Newford. Today there were also 15+ Chiffchaff and 10+Goldcrest in the area. A Crossbill also flew overhead and flushed my first Woodcock of the autumn. I also had a Yellow-browed Warbler at work yesterday

A lot more Chiffchaffs in at the moment

Still good numbers of winter thrushes around including 100's seen by other observers on Gugh today

A RED-FLANKED BLUETAIL that turned up at Barnby Lane, later at Lower Town Farm and then spent the rest of it's stay in the tennis court area, 18/19th, was identified as a different bird, by it's larger white throat, to the individual that was last seen on the 16th in the Cove Vean fields! This makes it the 5th Scilly record. Still with us on St Mary's we've got the BLYTH'S PIPIT and today it moved from Peninnis to the airfield to join the Short-toed Lark. Yesterday an Olive-backed Pipit was found at Little Arthur Farm, St Martins and was still present today and 2 Lapland Bunting were on Tresco Gimble Porth, but the Hunsonian Whimbrel was last seen yesterday. The only new bird of note today was a Red-breasted Flycatcher at Cove Vean, St Agnes

Great track! Lynn scored a big break recently when T Bone Burnett asked her to help compose and record the theme song for Season 2 of True Detectivewhich she co-wrote with Burnett and Rosanne Cash.
