Not another Glaucous Gull! There were 2 juveniles feeding on St Mary's tip
After a delay with the weather, we arrived at home on St Mary's a week ago. It wasn't until a few days of being on the island that I went out to look for what was around. They're were all the birds from last year, including the Sora Rail. However, I didn't see it at Lower Moors and after an hour I gave up I headed for the Dump. On the tip were 2 juvenile Glaucous Gull and in the weedy field behind I could hear the 1st winter male Serin and found in the single Hawthorn. Out of 70 odd Starling I couldn't find the Rose-coloured Starling.
Record shot of the 1st winter male Serin
Juvenile Glaucous Gull getting stuck in at the tip
1st winter Herring Gull
Lots of Kittiwakes close inshore at the moment
This Razorbill was at Porthmellon
Just before I left Shropshire I had one more look at the Velvet Scoter and 3 Scaup at Prisorlee Lake and went to have a look at Cackling Goose nearby at Telford Crematorium that Tom Lowe found.
A visit to Horsehay and I observed my first Red Kite in Telford heading towards Candles Landfill. On the tiny pool there were up to 16 Goosander
It was almost dark when this family of Bewick's Swan came into roost at Venus Pool.
'The Hawk' Hawkins is also notable for his role as something of a talent scout and mentor. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of premiere backing musicians via his band, The Hawks. The most successful of those eventually formed The Band, while other musicians Hawkins had recruited provided the makings of Robbie Lane & The Disciples, Janis Joplin's Full Tilt Boogie Band,[4] Crowbar, Bearfoot and Skylark
