Higgo's Tour to Annet

1st winter Red-breasted Flycatcher at the Parsonage

I demand a refund! However, I had a cracking day on St Agnes. Higgo organised, with Dave Badcock, to take a few of us to visit Annet. Before we got on the boat, from the quay, we all watched 11 Whooper Swan that had just arrived and fly around St Mary's. It came on the radio later that they had joined the 3 Ring-necked Duck at Porth Hellick. Halfway there and the swell was too high and we knew we were not going to land on the island as it was too rough. So we all were dropped off on St Agnes and as the Richard's Pipit was showing at the Big Pool, they all headed off that way while Ritchie and I went to see if yesterdays Booted Warbler was still in the Cove Vean area. a Brambling flew through with the many chaffinches and with no sign of the warbler we moved on and caught up with the 2 Irish COAL TITS by the phone box. As we turned the corner, a Red-breasted Flycatcher had just been found in the Parsonage. With a Yellow-browed Warbler and a Pied Flycatcher, it showed very well.

Shite! Were never going to land on Annet.

Yellow-browed Warbler and Irish COAL TIT at the Parsonage

We left for Gugh with Higgo and Alastair Ortom and the only birds of note were a Snow Bunting that Ritchie found and Higgo and Alastair had a flyover Woodlark heading low SW. The latter species we went looking for along the coastal path with Higgo being ahead, he came running from around the corner, beckoning us with his finger 'Ere boys' He had stumbled across it on the coastal path. I looked 'There's another one!' We kept our distance as we knew that a few of them would be walking across the bar, but after 10 minutes they both flew off towards St Agnes. Then I told everyone to shut up 'That's a Richard's Pipit?' We couldn't see the bird, but it was heard flying NNE. Later we discovered that Ritchie had it a few minutes before on the deck just around the corner. A return to Agy to look at a juvenile Rose-coloured Starling. However, I was distracted by one of the Irish Coal Tit and the Yellow-browed Warbler at the Parsonage.

Two mornings ago there was a Yellow-browed Warbler was in me garden with 2 Lesser Redpoll. I also flushed 16 Snipe in a nearby field.

The 3 Ring-necked Duck were performing at close range in front of the hide at Porth Hellick

Also on the same day in the early afternoon I was approaching Helvear Farm when I heard a distant Woodlark.Only my 4th Scilly record. A few minutes later I heard it again and just got it as it came down in a field out of sight at Tranowth. Despite checking all the fields with Higgo, there was no sign of it. What was thought to be the same bird was seen later over Lower Moors and then Rocky Hills.

Bob Dylan puts Billy Joe Shaver as one of his 5 top songwriters and he mentions Shaver in his song I Feel A Change Comin' On on the album Together through life (2009) "I'm listening to Billy Joe Shaver And I'm reading James Joycekl' It was Kris Kristofferson who produced his first album and from there his songs have been covered by all walks of life. 'Wacko from Waco' is a song he wrote about himself when police in Lorena, TX about 10 miles south of Waco, issued arrest warrants for Shaver April 2, 2007 on charges of aggravated assault and possessing a firearm in a prohibited place. This was in connection with an incident outside a tavern in Lorena on March 31, 2007, in which Shaver shot a man, Billy Bryant Coker, in the face with a handgun.Witnesses interviewed by police report hearing Shaver saying "where do you want it?" and then, after the shot was fired, "Tell me you are sorry" and "No one tells me to shut up." Coker told police the attack was unprovoked. Shaver's attorney declared that Shaver had shot Coker "in self-defense" after Coker threatened Shaver with a knife. After unsuccessfully attempting to surrender to police in Austin, TX, who were unaware of the warrant, Shaver turned himself in at McLennan County Jail in Waco, TX on Tuesday, April 3. He was released after an hour on $50,000 bond and gave his scheduled performance at Waterloo Records in Austin that evening, where he reportedly told fans, "Don't forget to pray for me, and tell your kids to pray for me, too." He was acquitted in a Waco court on April 9, 2010 after testifying that he acted in self-defense.

3rd HUMES WARBLER for Scilly!

HUMES YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER at the Dump Clump

I had a look at a Red-brested Flycatcher in Old Town Church, but it was a beggar to see. Across the road and I joined Higgo at the Dump Clump for the 3rd Scilly HUMES WARBLER that Tim Vaughan found yesterday. After 10 minutes we saw the bird and in bright light it could easily be passed off as Yellow-browed. However, in the shadows, as you can see in the top shot, it looked good for the Humes. Tim discovered the warbler by call when it moved through with Chiffs and when he played a tape of Humes, it responded.

Red-breasted Flycatcher and Goldcrest at Old Town Church

An interesting bird. It looks like a Yellow-browed Warbler with a Humes call.

It came on the radio that there was a Coal Tit at Newford Duckpond. As I still needed it for Scilly, I was there with in seconds and ended up looking first at a Firecrest. A turn around to look at a noisy tit flock and found the Irish Coal Tit by it's call. I think it was something like 'May your god go with you' and 'It's a cracker', it's the way I tell them' feeding in the Elms before it moved on. I've now got visions of the great late Dave Allen moving through the top of trees.

2 1st winter female and a single 1st winter male Ring-necked Duck arrived in the late afternoon flying around Porthloo area where they settled down briefly on the sea before flying to Lower Moors. As expected, they moved off the latter site and spent the night at Porth Hellick.

La Rue Kétanou is a French music between chanson and folk rock group with mixed elements of reggae music, bohemian style of life, theatre, poetry and humor. Its name is a deformation of La rue qui est à nous, which means The street that's ours.
The first album of La Rue Kétanou, En attendant les caravanes (Waiting for the caravans) was finally produced in 2001. After some time doing tours throughout France, the group completed a second album Y'a des cigales dans la fourmilière (There are cicadas in the ant-hill) in 2002. In 2004, they released a live album Ouvert à double tour. After this album, there were rumours that they were about to break up, which have proven untrue so far. Florent, however, spent some time in a related project, the group T'inquiète Lazare. Mourad and Olivier also formed a new band with several other musicians and friends, Mon côté punk.
After this pause, the group is touring again with two new members, Pierre Joseph and Simoné Monticelloni.

BLACKPOLL WARBLER, SOLITARY SAND, Bryher

BLACKPOLL WARBLER at Veronica Farm, Bryher

Last night Higgo asked me to join him on the 08.00 boat to Bryher that he had organised with Dave Badcock for the birders to hopefully see Paul Dukes Blackpoll Warbler that he found three days ago in the Veronica Farm area.. I told him that I can't make it and as a result Higgo relocated the Blackpoll. He also observed a Great Spotted Woodpecker come in off the sea, while at the same time I got a text from Richard Thewlis about the one still present on the Garrison. At 12.15 I was on my way to Bryher, but I almost ended up on Tresco! The boat was first stopping off at Carn Near and as we were approaching the quay, Ildiko wanted to get off. In front of about 50 birders, who were on the boat, we had a friendly disagreement. She repeated that she wanted me to go to Tresco with her and I kept replying, no, I want to go to Bryher. In the end I found her pushing me and ending up standing on the quay. However, this was only briefly as she told me with a smile, that I could go to Bryher. Before Joe could pull off, I was on back on the boat. Now, for all those birders who were on that boat and heard everything that we were saying, I didn't leave her to wonder the islands on her own. I wouldn't of done that, even if there was a mega on Bryher. She was meeting all her friends on there. I just wanted to clear that as I didn't want anyone to think that I could be so cruel.
News came on of the Blackpoll as we left Carn Near. However, the bird had gone missing when we all arrived. As I looked from a gate I saw a movement and shouted 3 times 'I've got it!' Bob Dawson, who was behind me was the first on it before the rest of the crowd arrived. For the next 20 minutes the warbler was showing well on and off in the hedge that borders Veronica Farm and the grass field.

The warbler showed well but was always too distant for the camera

As I needed Coal Tit for Scilly I thought it would be a good idea to look for the 2 that have been hanging around on the island for the last few days. Despite looking all over the shop, I couldn't find them and gave up and went to have a look at the juvenile SOLITARY SANDPIPER that has been feeding on a tiny pool at the dump. The bird showed down to a few meters and when a tractor came in to unload, it pushed the sandpiper just across the road to the dung heap near Hell Bay Hotel. The only other birds I saw of note were, 1 Siskin, 1 Willow Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, 5 Wheatear and heard a Water Rail

This ones is for Ildiko. I have to listen to a lot of Hungarian music almost daily and this is one of the bands that I liked a lot immediately when I first heard them. One of the flagships of Hungarian alternative rock, which in the early years was floating on the waves at the Dunaújváros docks. Next to the underground guidelines, they play groovy rock hits and even folkish tunes. The poetic lyrics written by lead singer Tibor Kiss are now ecstatically quoted by generations. The band that gives dynamic live concerts has undergone several mutations as well as recently being involved in live theatre performances.
