Red-eyed Vireo on St Agnes

The long staying American Golden Plover was still commuting with the airfield and Porth hellick Beach

Just after 12.00 this afternoon, Lewis Thomas text to say he just had 2 Bee-eater over the tennis courts, Bryher. Only minutes later Graham Gorden text with Bee-eater and Red-eyed Vireo on St Agnes seen by other birders!! At last things were looking up and all I had seen of note were the American Golden Plover at Porth Hellick Beach and the 3 Little Stint on the pool with a single Wigeon.
Late afternoon and Darren Mason contacted me to say he had a Icterine Warbler at the junction of Peacehaven, Watermill. I had to do with my only Reed Warbler of the day instead. Try again tomorrow if it's still there.   At Porthloo there were 3 Bar-tailed Godwit and 5 Dunlin. In the evening I had a Wryneck showing well at Trench Lane, assumed to be the individual found yesterday in front of the ISBG hide just up road at Lower Moors and the first birder to twitch it, was Paul Stancliff!

Also on St Mary's there were single Wood Warbler at Higher Moors and Newford. The latter site also had a Redstart with another at Trewince. On St Agnes both the Red-eyed Vireo and Bee-eater were briefly seen on and off throughout the day and there was a Wryneck on Gugh. The 2 Bee-eater on Bryher ended up at Borough Farm, Tresco. Nearby there were Lesser  Whitethroat, Pied Flycatcher and Wood Sandpiper was still on the Abbey Pool. A Ring Ouzel and the Curlew Sandpiper were on Bryher

There were still 3 Little Stint at Porth Hellick Pool

One Snipe starts preening and the others follow

Moorhen

Up to 100 Swallow and 30 House Martin were in the area

Altogether I saw up to 15+Chiffchaff

2 Spotted Flycatcher were at Twerince

There was a small influx of Clouded Yellow. I saw 5 including this one at Trewince

Small Tortoiseshell

Turnstone

Ringed Plover

Dunlin

I ain't observed a Wryneck showing off like this one for a few years now. It was performing well on the sheds at the end of Trench Lane for a good twenty minutes in the warm evening light.

Sunset this evening from Porthloo

The 19th I found a Curlew Sandpiper feeding with the 2 Little Stint and Semipalmated Sandpiper. On the 21st there was a fall of Wheatear with over 200 airfield/Giants Castle area. I managed to see 140+ with another 50 on the golf course.

The Semipalmated Sandpiper hanging out with the little Stint was last seen on the 21st

The Curlew Sandpiper was always distant at Porth Hellick

Glossy Ibis on St Mary's

Graham Cundasle had this Glossy Ibis briefly at Porth Hellick on the morning of 15th and shortly afterwards Mark Anderson had it over Peninnis.

Two days ago, mid-morning, Mark Anderson called me to say he's watching a Glossy Ibis over Peninnis heading towards Porthcressa. I was in me wagon in a flash and down the Strand I picked it up flying over town before returning towards Porthcressa. It was not seen again until 11.55 when I was just approaching the entrance of the Star Castle, I spotted it heading towards town from the north side of the Garrison. The wind caught it and it turned and was swept across The Roads towards Tresco to never be seen again!
Just before 13,00 a text came through from Graham Cundale 'Glossy Ibis and AGP at Porth Hellick'. I tried to call him back without any success but within a few minutes there were a load of us searching for the damn thing with no sign of it anywhere. It wasn't for another hour till I got through to Graham only to be told by him that he had it at 09.30 this morning and he forgot his mobile! Well at least he got a good ole pic of it.

Today the wind had moved to a NE breeze with bright sun all day making it bloody hot! I didn't get out until the afternoon and at Salkee the Meadow Pipits had increased to over 120 with the single Skylark still present. At Lower Moors I said hello to the Semipalmated Sandpiper and Green sandpiper then saw the second Yellow-browed Warbler of the year nearby that was found earlier on. The first was discovered this morning on Gugh. A Yellow Wagtail also flew over then I made my ways to Porth Hellick to see the American Golden Plover and take advantage of the evening light.

Over 120 Meadow Pipit were at Salkee

And 2 Sparrowhawk were flushing them on and off

Juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper was still at Lower Moors

Ringed Plover

This Osprey was observed over Porth Hellick this morning by Chris and Juliet before departing towards Tresco. Also seen today were a single Common Rosefinch and Ring Ouzel, St Agnes where there were only 2 Lapland Bunting now and Yellow-browed Warbler on Gugh. Another Ring Ouzel was on Bryher and the 6 Pink-footed Geese were still on Tresco.
